If it can go wrong, it will go __________. It’s not a difficult fill in the blank. We’ve heard Murphy’s Law a million times.
Have you heard Murphy’s Law applied to birds, though?
We have three birdhouses in our backyard. One was given to us by friends this past Christmas. I recently purchased two “Bird’s Choice” birdhouses, one of which is equipped with a camera. I dug a trench thirty yard longs (in the summer heat) and ran the video cable through the side of the house (not easy for a numskull like me). Guess which birdhouses the bluebirds are in? Go on guess. I’ll give you two guesses.
Not the one with the video camera in it.
And that’s Murphy’s Law applied to birds.
Today I did, however, get to watch a bluebird and another bird take a bath in one of our birdbaths. I’m 53 years-old and I had never seen a bird taking a bath in a birdbath. It was amazing. They each bathed for around 30 seconds. It was – better than a good movie.
May you have more bird good luck than bird bad luck.

We host chimney swifts annually. I am ready for them to fly south, or “souther” than Charlotte anyway. They sound like an army of crickets 10,000 strong. You are most welcome to come by and drop a camera down the chimney, and while you are up there, maybe you can cap the thing. Also, please bring your own ladder. We don’t have a 24-footer. Thank you so much.
That’s funny, and that’s not funny.
