Since My Mother Died . . .

My mother, Jane Ayers, died 6 years ago.  Mom also liked being bragged on.  Don’t we all. My mother made the world’s best sugar cookies.  She also made the best fried-apple pies.

I miss my mother.  I miss her cooking.

Since my mother died my Aunt Sue

is the world’s best sugar cookie maker and the world’s best fried-apple pie maker.  Her sugar cookies and fried-apple pies are so good.  And they make me think of my mother.

May God bless our memories of our mothers and may God fill the world with Aunt Sue’s.  Amen.

I believe that fried pie making is a lost art. Mama made ‘em, too — apple, peach, apricot…. We ate them plain. It was YEARS before I thought how grand one would be with a dollop of cream — sweet or sour. Now when I make the apricot filling, it’s for crepes. Really good, but not the same!!!
