Every now and then a Gay Biblian will come to Wedgewood. Unless they learn about textual criticism, canonical criticism, church history, and problems in Biblical interpretation, even though they enjoy being at a church where they can be who God created them to be Gay Biblians never make it at Wedgewood. Wedgewood isn’t just a church that treats people equally, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Wedgewood also is, among other things, a church that encourages a thinking faith, being honest about the Bible and Biblical interpretation. We think being honest about the Bible and gay equality going hand in hand, but some people, unfortunately, do not.
I can understand Gay Biblians to a point. When you’ve been beaten upside the head with the Bible for so long you want to claim the Bible as your own. You don’t want to be out-Bibled. I can empathize with that, but not being honest about some texts in the which condemn same sex intercourse (two in Leviticus – and possibly more) is inexcusable, as is being dishonest about all the other horrific texts. [Being dishonest about homoerotic verses is also inexcusable.]
We call ourselves Christians, not Biblians. Dont’ forget that.

Well said, sir. The Bible functions as an idol for many people. I prefer it as an icon–something through which I see God.
